Our 2nd Annual Black Excellence Calendar is Here!

Umoja is Swahili for Unity.  In an effort to promote unity and to celebrate the greatness within us as a people, The Umoja Village Nonprofit Corporation is proud and pleased to present our 2nd Annual Umoja Village Celebrates Black Excellence calendar.  This year’s theme is “Warriors For Change.”  These individuals have spent most of their lives fighting for others by way of human, civil, or voting rights.  The individuals highlighted within this calendar in no way covers all of the persons primarily in Aiken County who are Warriors For Change.

For our first year, we presented some of the Central Savannah River Area’s movers and shakers under 45.  These individuals, “Shining Stars,” represented a host of amazing individuals and couples who were making notable contributions in the areas of civil and voting rights, education, business, youth mentorship community service, and rising stars in the legal/justice system.

Each year, Umoja Village will select a new theme to celebrate Black Excellence to salute every-day Blacks and African Americans who are blazing trails or have established a foundation on which we stand.  We pray that these calendars will become annual collector’s items and reminders of how far we’ve come as a people as we press toward the mark of a higher calling.  Proceeds from the Umoja Village Celebrates Black Excellence calendar projects support the Umoja Village Resource Center and the overall mission of this God-inspired organization.  To learn more, visit www.umojavillage.com.
