UMOJA VILLAGE UPDATE, because YOU are UMOJA!

1. The Cumbee Center to Assist Abused Persons is hiring a Volunteer Coordinator.  Benefits include paid time off, paid holidays, 401K, life insurance, etc.  Interviews will start next week.  If interested in learning more about the requirements, let me know.  Details will be forwarded to you.

 
 

 2. Tickets for Umoja Village's 3rd Annual Black History Month Community Celebration are $15.  This event sells out each year.  Purchase on umojavillage.com or at our center.  Event takes place Sunday, Feb. 4th, 3 p.m., Lessie Price Senior & Youth Center.  Includes meal.  We are grateful to awesome sponsors who help to keep this event affordable.

 3. We encourage everyone to perform some type of service on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 15th.  Keep Aiken County Beautiful is sponsoring a litter pick-up day on Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Highway (Laurens Street, NW in Aiken) on that day, 9AM.  Volunteers must check in at the Boys & Girls Club, 640 Laurens St., NW.

 
 

 4. The 2024/2025 Schofield Middle School Scholarship Fund applications are available for students interested in receiving financial assistance.  Applicants must have either attended Schofield Middle School or have/had a relative to work there; must be a current Aiken County public school high school senior, or current college students, or current recipient reapplying for aid.  Applications due by March 8, 2024.  Application will be uploaded to the Umoja Village website.  Or, send me your email address.
